I ordered and built a CNC Router machine over a year ago. This is where I admit one of my big mental blocks. Let me explain…
We all have some kinds of mental blocks. When I was in junior high school I loved my drafting and woodworking classes. I really did well in them and I loved the tediousness of setting up my paper on my work board, using a t-ruler and square and everything else to draw out my drafts. My teacher was really happy with my work and wanted me to try out CAD (computer aided design). I did NOT like it at all. So I stopped. It became a block for me.
Another example is the hand grinder. I have heard so many horror stories of grinder wheels shattering and going everywhere and the many different accidents that can happen while using them. (Lots of people feel the same with different types of saws, etc.) The fear was real, but once someone showed me and guided me on using the grinder, it became one of my favorite tools.
The same could be said of my new CNC machine. It sat on my garage wall for more than a year–I had (and still have) lots of dreams about what I could do with it. Finally my wife’s brother had a pause in his life with work and school, so I decided to pay him to come out and help me with my mental block. Within just a few days we were carving out new ideas.
This idea came and developed into a ‘Thank You’ note for a couple that planned out and guided us on a Disney World trip recently. Not just Disney World, but Universal Studios too. It just turned into a big thank you card for them, and maybe a souvenir for us. No sound on the video, just enjoy and let me know what you think.
